If you decide to run a b&b then you need to make it a goal to have the very best one out there. You want the reviews about it to rave about how wonderful it is. That way more people will be contacting you to make a reservation. Imagine having to turn away reservations again and again due to already being booked. That is the best scenario the owner of such a business can hope for.
In order for it to become a reality you have to be passionate about your business. You need to be willing to go beyond what everyone else is doing in that industry. That way you can offer something more substantial. Creativity in the area of running a b&b will take you a long way. People are refreshed when they are exposed to something that is comfortable and beautiful at the same time. Are you willing to offer them that?
Anyone can run a b&b but not everyone can do so effectively. You may be skeptical about the industry with so many of them for sale. Customers are golden for any type of business and a bed & breakfast is no exception. Empty rooms mean loss of profits and if that is happening several times a week you may need to implement some changes while you still have the opportunity to do so. You need to get the word out about your business in a way that makes people very excited to come check it out for themselves.
These days people look for anything and everything online. It is one of the first places they turn when they need accommodations while traveling. You should have your own website in place. Many people have the idea that this is too hard or too expensive but it doesn’t have to be. Do what you can on your own and then hire someone to take care of the rest of it for you.
The website needs to be very professional looking as well as inviting. (more…)

Offering special promotions for your bed & breakfast can get people to secure reservations. This is a good way to generate what will become customers on a regular basis. It can have a spider effect too as those that stay are likely to tell a handful of others what you had to offer them. Hopefully it is enough to encourage them to contact you as well.
There are many angles that you can take when it comes to helping your bed & breakfast to move forward. You may want to try out several things at once so you can have more of a chance that something is going to work out for you. Take areas where you really need to make improvements and include them as part of your promotions as well.
Offering a free night when someone stays for two or three days is a great incentive to go with you and not your competition. It can be something that simple that will turn your business around. You may say you can’t afford to give away a night for free. Yet if that person doesn’t make the reservation you may end up with the room empty for four nights so it is still going to be a winning situation for everyone involved with it. (more…)

If you own a bed & breakfast, you should consider using a brochure to generate more business. The number of people traveling this year will be slimmer due to increased gas and food prices. Therefore you need to be more aggressive so you can hook those who are traveling. A brochure can capture their attention and help them decide it is the perfect place for them to stay.
You will have to decide if you want to take on the task of creating a brochure on your own. You don’t have to be an expert to do a great job. Try out the free demos with various software programs. This way you can use one that is simple to navigate but at the same time very effective.
If you don’t have the time or the desire to do it, you can hire someone. Chances are your local print shops will take on the task. (more…)

A Bed and Breakfast, often referred to as a B&B, is a private residence with several rooms of which are set aside for overnight guests whose paid accommodations include breakfast. Modern Bed and Breakfast often consciously tries to recall earlier days – they are generally established in charming older houses which have been refurbished and adorned with antique furniture.
Hence insuring one’s bed and breakfast property is a better idea to recover any loss caused accidentally. Also, if a guest is injured while staying in the bed and breakfast, and if the adequate liability cover is not in place, the owner has to face the loss. Another important reason to insure one’s property is incase one has to close its doors for a while, especially during peak season, due to any number of problems such as fire and storm or a violent or accidental event at the premises. Hence insuring your property at the right time and right insurer will help a prospective owner to compensate the loss. (more…)

For those home owners already in the bed and breakfast business, this is a busy time of the year. Hanging out the signs again, putting the ‘Vacancy’ sign in the window and generally sprucing up the front of the house.
In fact, many of us are thinking of smartening up the front of our homes as warmer weather beckons and the stores start bringing in plants. Everyone is ready for the spring, and people will be pulling out their maps again, ready to hit the road.
If you live in an area that attracts tourists or is a through road to somewhere that does, you could have a lucrative option right on your doorstep. It is not too difficult to run a bed and breakfast business, all you need is a really nice room (with an en suite) and a smile at the door.
If you can’t design your own web site or join up with a communal B & B web site in your area, then try the old fashioned method. These days, there are many towns that have their own ‘tourist information centers’ that will also carry details of bed and breakfasts. (more…)

The passion you put into your role as you operate a bed and breakfast will be readily seen by all that contact you or come to stay. Have you ever gone out to dinner or to another type of business and realized just how miserable certain staff members were to be there? That can place a damper on the event for those that do come to participate. Some people just don’t relax enough when they own a business though.
While they may really enjoy what they do it doesn’t show. There is no reason why you can’t have fun while you operate a bed and breakfast. I certainly do understand there is plenty of work involved with it. Yet you have to balance that all out with the chance to meet new people and to provide them with a wonderful experience. The level of comfort that your guests will have doesn’t isn’t just evaluated based on your place but also on how you make them feel.
If they feel welcome and at home they will enjoy it much more. They will be able to relax themselves and to have a good time. If they are able to feel you are sincerely happy that they came to your business they will feel appreciated. If you are stressed as you operate a bed and breakfast don’t let it show. You can use that stress to give positive energy to accomplish all you need to. (more…)

Before you consider setting up a Bed and Breakfast you must do your financial projections and work out how much money your B&B will actually make to see if it is actually worth setting up in business.
If you are buying an existing business you will probably have access to the business accounts which will show you how much money the previous owners have taken each year. This will give you a good idea of how much money you can expect to make. If there is potential to improve the business you may be able to make more money. Or you may make less money than the existing owners, depending on how you run the business.
Bear in mind that previous good performance does not guarantee good takings for the future. There may be factors beyond your control, such as a weak dollar, bad weather, an outbreak of foot and mouth , which may all contribute to a decrease in the number of people staying at B&Bs. (more…)
